About Junko Tanaka, Tibetan Sounds Healing

Born in Tokyo in 1962. Currently based in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, and active as a singing bowl therapist. Travels to Okinawa, Osaka and other cities throughout Japan to provide singing bowl therapy, concerts and healing workshops.

Junko, always a hard-worker, embarked on her first backpacking trip in her mid-20s. She went to Thailand, making stops at small islands with no electricity. For a young woman with a preference for brand-name clothes and full-face makeup, an environment lacking such a fundamental aspect of modern living was a huge shock. Since then, Junko has gone on other trips, mainly in Asia, that have shaped her sense of values. She likes to immerse herself in the lifestyles of the local people and has maintained this approach in her travels to more than 40 countries.

On a trip in 2005, she met the world-renown Nepalese singing bowl master Santa Ratna Shakya (http:// www.singingbowlcentre.com) and out of the blue decided to become a licensed therapist. Junko learned directly from Mr. Shakya the alchemy of singing bowl therapy as passed down by Tibetan healers. This therapy uses sounds resonating from seven bowls—each targeting one of the major chakras (energy points affecting the central nervous system)—to stimulate body and mind.

Just as she does when she travels, Junko always emphasizes the people factor in providing singing bowl therapy.
